Lucifer, The Unveiling

How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, You who weakened the nations!

(Isaiah 14:12)

The name “Lucifer” is found in only one place in the entire Bible. And that's in the book of Isaiah at the address you see above. The Strong's concordance defines the word “Lucifer” as helel, which literally means “shining one,” “star of the morning,” or “bearer of light,” which gives some understanding of Paul's proclamation that he is able to transform himself into an “angel of light” (2 Cor. 11:14). Lucifer was one of God's heavenly hosts (aka..angels) that He created before He created the earth. We know that to be true because Job 38:4-7 says,

Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding. Who determined its measurements? Surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it? To what were its foundations fastened? Or who laid its cornerstone, When the morning stars sang together, And all the sons of God shouted for joy?

So we can see that along with all of the other angels God created, Lucifer was created before this physical earth because Scripture tells us that the angels all sang and shouted for joy at God's creation of the earth.

Okay, now that you've had the beginning introduction to Lucifer - Starting from the time God created him, until his final ultimate demise, we now began with;

The Unveiling”

Lucifer was one of God's most beautiful and powerful angels. In Ezekiel chapter 28, the sovereign Lord gives this description of Lucifer;

You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone adorned you: carnelian, chrysolite, and Emerald, Topaz, Onyx and Jasper, lapis lazuli, turquoise, and beryl. Your settings and mountings were made of gold; on the day you were created they were prepared. You were anointed as a guardian cherub, for so I ordained you. You were on the holy mount of God; you walked among the fiery stones. You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created till wickedness was found in you.”

The Many Names of Lucifer

The name Lucifer has a positive meaning (“shining one,” “star of the morning,” “bearer of light,”), which gives us a clear indication that it was his “pre-fall” name or title. However, throughout the Scriptures, there are many other “post-fall” names or titles with negative meanings behind them that were used to describe him. The main one we will start with is “Satan,” which means “adversary.” And for those of you who are wondering if Lucifer and Satan are one and the same, here are two Scriptures that give us the answer. Isaiah 14:12, which speaks of Lucifer falling from heaven, and Luke 10:18, where Jesus Himself states; “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.” So when Isaiah refers to Lucifer being cast down to earth, it can be none other than the same Satan that Jesus is talking about in Luke chapter 10. The Scripture uses the name “Satan” to describe him over 50 times.

Other “post-fall” names for Lucifer include the following;

And 3 titles that point to Satan's authority in this world;

When & Why Did Lucifer Rebel against God?

In Genesis 1:31, it says “Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.”

Since God saw that everything that He created was “very good” on day six of creation week, Lucifer's fall had to have happened shortly after day 6, and prior to his deceiving Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Since God did not want robot angels that were forcefully created to serve Him, He gave them all the “free will” to choose whether they wanted to love and serve Him or not, just like He gave His human creation. Pride was the main reason for Lucifer's fall. Rather than give God the glory for creating him so perfectly, Lucifer took pride in himself.

In Isaiah 14:13 -14, Lucifer's pride causes him to proclaim the famous “5” I will's. It states; 'You said in your heart, “I will ascend into heaven; I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation On the farthest sides of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.”James 1:14 says “But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed.” So, sin originates in one's own desire. Lucifer's incredible beauty, power, and wisdom, led him to rebel against his Creator, resulting in God casting him out of heaven - and will eventually result in his condemnation in the lake of fire for all of eternity (Revelation 20:10).

What Is the Extent of Satan's Power?

Now that we know about Lucifer's fall, we will call him “Satan” (post-fall name). Below, I will discuss his abilities and limitations. But first, I would like to get one thing straight. There are too many people in this world who have a false presumption about Satan. Let me give you an example; if you were to ask most people (non-Christians) the question, “Who is the opposite of God?” The majority of them would probably say “Satan.” And that could not be further from the truth. God does not have an opposite! The opposite of Satan (a bad, fallen, created being), would be someone like Michael the Archangel (a good, non-fallen, created being), or another guardian cherub that did not fall from heaven, like one of the cherubim in the Garden of Eden that were guarding the tree of life (Genesis 3:24). Satan is not God's opposite! That's why I hate all of those stupid pictures you see on the Internet of Jesus and Satan opposing each other in an arm-wrestling match or something like that. God spoke His creation into existence, and He can reverse that just as fast. And Jesus is God (John 1:1-3, 14)!

Satan's abilities:

Satan and his dominions hold supernatural abilities and power. And they can share them with anyone who is doing their bidding (knowingly or not). In Exodus chapters 7 & 8, the Pharaoh's wise men, sorcerers, and magicians used their “secret arts” to successfully duplicate many of the miracles of God, being done through Moses during the issuing of the plagues. And today, there are countless numbers of people who seem to have supernatural abilities or power in one way or another, due to their interest in things like witchcraft, and the new-age agenda (just check out YouTube). These abilities were given to them by Satan and his dominions, who exhibit such powers as psychokinesis, levitation, possession, seduction, and even shape-shifting, to name a few. In Revelation 13:3, the Antichrist receives a fatal wound that is completely healed by the power of Satan.

Satan's limitations:

The Lord God is all-powerful, present everywhere, and all-knowing. Satan is none of these. He does not have unlimited power, cannot be everywhere at once, and does not know everything. His very existence depends on God.

  • He cannot physically harm or kill without God's permission (Job 2:2-6).

  • He cannot even touch a believer without God's permission (Job 1:10 & 1 John 5:18).

  • He cannot read our thoughts (1 Kings 8:39). And,

    Other than what's already written in Scripture,

  • He does not know the future (Isaiah 46:9-10).

There are a lot of things that Satan cannot do without God's permission. But the Lord often uses Satan and allows him to mess with us for His purpose. To strengthen us and equip us for the battles and challenges that lie ahead. Then we will have the knowledge to be able to help someone else going through them. Have you ever been comforted while going through a horrific challenge in your life by a heartfelt, caring person who has battled through the same thing?

The Strategies of Satan, and His Demonic Agenda

An Internet search on the different strategies of Satan will yield numerous results. But as I read through them, I realized that most of them were a direct branch off of “deception.” And, since that's Satan's number one strategy for his demonic agenda, requiring more space for info, I have placed it at the bottom of this list of what I see to be the “5 most obviously used tactics of Satan.”

  1. Oppression/Affliction – In the days of Jesus, spiritual darkness was rampant and demons afflicted many people with diseases, both mental and physical. We see that demons can cause physical ailments (Job 2:7 & Luke 13:11- 13), even harming people directly or indirectly (Mark 5:5 & 9:18), and even create physical limitations such as causing someone to be mute (Matthew 9:32), or blind (Matthew 12:22). But not every hardship or affliction can be directly attributed to Satan only. He can gain access to God through our willful unconfessed sin (Ephesians 4:26-27), for disciplinary purposes (1 Corinthians 5:5), testing (Job 1:12), or for spiritual growth (2 Corinthians 12:7). Oppression is hardship, and affliction is pain.

  2. Anger/Contention - This particular tactic works so well with so many people. Causing anger and contention between God's people is a great way to cause division within the church. Foolish and ignorant disputes cause strife and are a “snare of the devil” (2 Timothy 2:23-26). James discusses jealousy and selfish ambition which lead to quarrels, and calls it “demonic wisdom” (James 3:13-16). Even the Lord himself used an evil spirit to deal treacherously with Abimelech (Judges 9:22-23). Satan's plan is to cause contention, which causes anger, which can often lead to even worse sins.

  3. Obstacles – Satan and his forces place obstacles in our life to hinder us from the truth. This causes people to believe a lie and not produce fruit. Jesus talks about this in the parable of the sower (Matthew 13:1-23). The apostle Paul says he blinds the eyes of some people so they do not believe (2 Corinthians 4:4). We see in Daniel 10:10-14, that Satan and his dominions will even use themselves as an obstacle to hinder our prayers. And they will go to any means necessary to stop the spread of Christianity, including using leaders in high places to martyr God's people.

  4. Temptation – I personally would guess that temptation would be one of Satan's easiest tactics to use against us. By monitoring us closely, he knows each one of our greatest weaknesses and is quick to use them against us. Especially if we're getting too close to God (I know from personal experience). He started his temptation tactic way back in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3:6). And, although he was unsuccessful in tempting Jesus Himself (Matthew 4:1-11), he was totally successful in tempting Judas Iscariot with money, to betray Jesus (Luke 22:3-6). And quite often, he can be successful in tempting you and me also.

And,

5. Deception – Okay, here's the granddaddy of them all! Satan “the deceiver” was a liar from the beginning, and is the father of lies. There is no truth in him (John 8:44). Deception is the enemy's #1 tactic to use against us. Satan is so good at deception, that he was even able to successfully deceive 1/3rd of God's entire angelic population in heaven (Revelation 12:4). He then continued using his evil deception tactic after being cast out of heaven. His first human victim was Eve. He deceived her into thinking that God lied about dying after eating the forbidden fruit (Genesis 3:4-6).

And even though the Lord reserved for Himself 7000 profits who had not bowed their knee to Baal, Satan deceived the prophet Elijah into believing “he” was the only true prophet left to stand up for God, and they were trying to kill him (Romans 11:2-4). Elijah was so fearful and anxious, that he even wanted to die.

In 2 Samuel 16:5-13, King David's attitude towards Shimei was to have mercy on him, but years later, toward the latter part of his life, his attitude completely changed toward Shimei to the point of wanting him brutally executed (1 Kings 2:8-9). Satan filled David's heart and mind with evil thoughts.

And John the Baptist, cousin of Jesus, who spent his entire ministry baptizing people and preparing them for the coming of the Messiah (John 1:29-35), was deceived by Satan while alone in a dungeon to the point of questioning whether Jesus was truly the Messiah (Matthew 11:2-6). This was a man who was so great, that he even earned the statement from Jesus Himself stating; “among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist” (Matthew 11:11).

And even the mother of our Lord Jesus Christ, the blessed “Virgin Mary,” was deceived by Satan. In Luke 1:28-35, an angel of the Lord gave Mary a promise straight from God, that she would miraculously bare a Child who would be the Son of the Most High. Yet in Mark 3:21, even after watching Jesus perform many miracles during His ministry, His own family (including His mother) thought He was out of His mind. As you can see, other than Jesus Himself, there is no one that Satan and his dominions cannot deceive. That's why we always have to be completely mindful at all times of his deceitful ways.

How Good Is Satan's Plan Working?

Satan and his army of demons continue to use these same tactics today, which have worked so well for them from the beginning. Oppression and affliction are still heavily seen throughout this world. There are still five countries in this world that are completely controlled by a communist dictator and his regime. Suffering, hardship, and physical and mental ailments are all around us. Satan knows that many people who are suffering, will either be too occupied in their suffering to worship God, or even blame God for their suffering.

Anger and contention are other tactics that are working well for Satan. A divided church is a weak church. Foolish disputes and debates within the church have caused the creation of many different denominations, and many people have gotten confused about which denomination is the right one. The enemy wants us to keep fighting with each other about religious matters and spiritual beliefs.

Obstacles are used by Satan to distract people from the truth. And Satan will use anything necessary as an obstacle to stop the spread of Christianity, including entering the minds of powerful people. In 303 AD, the Roman Emperor Diocletian, destroyed every church building, killed every pastor, and destroyed every complete manuscript of the Bible he could find. It was one of the worst persecutions of the Christian church in history. He came closer than anybody to completely exterminating Christianity. But even on a more personal level, the enemy overstimulates our minds by enticing us with constant distractions like secular music, video games, magazines, live entertainment, and television. Anything that would distract us from hearing the still small Voice.

I probably don't even have to tell you how well Satan's tactic of temptation is working on the world today. According to statistics from Family Safe Media, the pornography industry generates over $12 billion a year, including 2.5 billion just from Internet revenue. That's more than the revenue of ABC, NBC, and CBS combined. Sex is the #1 researched topic on the Internet. There are over 1.3 million porn sites on the Internet, and 60% of all website visits are sexual in nature. And if the enemy is not tempting us with sex, he'll entice us to work 6 or 7 days a week, 10-12 hours a day, just to obtain the material possessions we so desire. It takes us away from God and our families. How clever is this tactic?

And finally, we ask;

“How good is Satan's favorite tactic of “deception” working today?

Satan knows the Scriptures, and therefore he knows that God has placed eternity in the hearts of man (Ecclesiastes 3:11). It's like a big “God-shaped” hole in our hearts that only the Lord can fill. From the beginning of time, man has always felt the need to worship a higher authority in hopes of obtaining a better afterlife. Knowing this, Satan has always done in the past and is still doing today, the best thing possible to deceive millions of people. Have them follow some false prophet or teacher, spend their life in a false religion, and worship a false god.

And today, there are over 1.9 billion followers of Islam, over 1 billion followers of Hinduism, over 506 million followers of Buddhism, over 16 million Mormons, and over 1 million Jehovah's Witnesses to name a few. And since Jesus Christ said that “No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6), that means unless all of these people turn to the true living God, they will all end up spending eternity in hell (close to 4 billion people). That's how well that's working!

And also, Satan is doing his best to stamp out Christianity in every way, and from every angle. As in the past, he accomplishes this by entering the hearts and minds of rich and powerful people in high places, who have the money and resources to make changes in government, resulting in our country ending up like Sodom and Gomorrah - where laws have passed that basically say, “what's wrong is right, and what's right is wrong” (abortion, gay/lesbian, etc..).

Another part of this tactic is using extremely famous people with millions of crazed fans from all over the world to promote the “dark side” in some way, shape, or form, by way of their movies, music lyrics, wardrobe, and demonic hand gestures. To see how well this part of his deception tactic is working, I researched and created a list of people in extremely high places, a lot of which are responsible, or partly responsible for running and operating an entire country - including ours, and the evil things they're involved with behind closed doors.

But considering that I have been attacked by the enemy more during this particular blog than all of my other blogs put together, I totally decided against it. If you do the homework you'll find out for yourself. Some of our leaders are involved in human trafficking, international drug smuggling, demonic rituals, and even pedophile rings. Satan and his dominions are hard at work here!

False gods are being erected in the form of statues and monuments all over the world, such as “Shiva the destroyer,” at CERN Switzerland, Prometheus, the fallen angel, at Rockefeller Plaza, or the huge stone “Owl” Minerva, at Bohemian Grove. And you can look them all up, but I just wanted to show you a picture of one particular statue that was erected.

Here Is a Demonic Statue of Baphomet at the Arkansas Capitol

What's Ahead for Satan?

Well, as one of my favorite pastors (Dr. David Jeremiah) said; “I can sum it all up in a single word: hell.” In Matthew 25:41, Jesus Himself speaks of “the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels.” During the latter half of the final tribulation period, Satan will empower a great world dictator - the Antichrist, to lead the armies of the world against God's people. But Jesus and His church return down to earth to defeat Satan in the battle of Armageddon (Revelation 16). Satan then gets locked up for 1000 years in the bottomless pit during the millennium period (Revelation 20:1-3). After that, he gets let loose for a short period of time (Revelation 20:7-8) before his final ultimate demise.
